General Assembly

Topic: Protection of Freshwater Sources

The General Assembly is one of the United Nations' six principal organs. They are responsible for a variety of things, among which include appointing the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the UN budget, and making decisions that can affect the 195 member nations of the United Nations. Currently in its 76th session, the United Nations first met at the Methodist Central Hall in London on the 10th of January 1946, and delegates from only 51 nations convened to discuss many issues. Passing their first bill on the UN Plan for the Partition of Palestine in 1949, the General Assembly of the United Nations has gone on to make many groundbreaking deals that influenced the course of history. They meet each year to discuss the many issues that plague nations around the world. We hope to see you at the WAIMUN 2024 iteration of GA!

    DIRECTOR

Alessandra Azure is a senior at Newport High School and is thrilled to serve as the Director of GA at this year’s iteration of WAIMUN! Alessandra first began her Model United Nations journey in 8th grade and has been fascinated by the spirited debate of MUN ever since. She especially loves the creativity and zeal that characterize MUN, and is appreciative of the skills she’s gained from participating in this complex activity. When not falling down a debate research rabbit hole, Alessandra can be found trying out a new recipe or walking her ferocious 5-pound dog. • Rosha Roudaki

    CHAIR

Rosha Roudaki is a sophomore at International Community School who is thrilled to serve as Chair of General Assembly in this year’s iteration of WAIMUN! After joining her school’s MUN club, she attended her first conference. As a beginner delegate, Rosha was thrown right into debate and didn’t have a clue about the endless intricacies of MUN. While immersed in the wild world of debate, she noticed her passion for MUN. Through her MUN journey, she has been to many different cities—and even countries—for a chance to debate at various MUN conferences. Aside from MUN, Rosha is president of her school’s NAHS club, an ecstatic page design lead for her school’s newspaper, and an avid enjoyer of 2000’s metal and rock bands. Rosha is excited to staff for this fabulous committee and to hear all the intriguing ideas that delegates conjure up!

  • Rayan Rizwan

    ASSISTANT-DIRECTOR

Currently in his junior year at Inglemoor High School, Rayan is honoured to serve as Assistant Director for WAIMUN’s General Assembly. Starting out his MUN journey as a ninth grader representing Saudi Arabia in H-DISEC, Rayan has become extremely passionate about the peculiar but intriguing activity. Model UN has allowed him to evolve his leadership skills and grow his public speaking skills. Outside of the committee, you can find Rayan playing various JRPG’s, watching his favourite soccer team, Tottenham Hotspur, playing tennis, furiously scribbling Kanji and justifying his decision to take IB. Rayan hopes that he can help all attending delegates to have a wonderful WAIMUN experience.
